Isaac Adegboyega Adedara

Descrição:

Dr. Isaac Adegboyega Adedara obtained the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.), Master of Science (M.Sc.) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Biochemistry from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria in 2001, 2004 and 2011, respectively. He has been lecturing in the Department of Biochemistry since January 2008. He is the immediate past Sub-Dean (Undergraduate), Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, University of Ibadan (2018-2022). He was a recipient of the prestigious Indian National Science Academy-Jehangir R.D. Tata (INSA-JRD TATA) and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation Fellowships (USA) during his doctoral research program. He had his postdoctoral trainings at the Department of Anatomy, Physiology, and Pharmacology, College of Veterinary Medicine, Auburn University, Auburn, USA with Sir Mobolaji Bank Anthony Fellowship (UK) in 2012 as well as the Department of Biochemical Toxicology, Federal University of Santa Maria, Santa Maria, Brazil with TWAS-CNPq Postdoctoral Fellowship (Brazil) in 2014-2015. Moreover, he is a recipient of the prestigious ?Jovem Talento com Experiência no Exterior Fellowship? from CAPES to participate in the project entitled ?Pharmacological and nutritional strategies for health promotion? at the Federal University of Santa Maria, Brazil (2021-2022). Dr. Adedara?s research interests over the years have focused on biochemical and molecular toxicology, cellular oxidative stress mechanisms, antioxidant redox biochemistry and chemoprotective mechanisms of phytochemicals in cellular toxicity and diseases, thus contributing to the understanding of Functional foods, Phytomedicine, Nutraceuticals and Molecular Nutrition. He uses a wide range of contemporary and molecular biology tools including, but not limited to, spectrophotometric enzyme assays, western blotting and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay in his research which have added to the body of knowledge in biomedical research. Dr. Adedara?s studies have demonstrated novel toxicological mechanisms of Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1), a potent and naturally occurring mycotoxin as well as the efficacies of some bioactive food components (kolaviron, protocatechuic acid, gingerols, gallic acid, resveratrol and curcumin) may abate free radical-mediated toxicity and diseases via antioxidant mechanisms, thus promoting good health in humans. Dr. Adedara teaches Cell Biochemistry, Chemistry and Biochemistry of Macromolecules, Enzymes and Intermediary Metabolism as well as Endoplasmic Reticulum (Xenobiochemistry) to Medical (MBBS/BDS), Laboratory Science, Physiotherapy, Pharmacy, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Human Nutrition and Dietetics students in the undergraduate program. His involvement in the Postgraduate program includes teaching on the Principles and Regulation of Drug Metabolism, seminar presentations and project supervision. He has published over 100 research papers in reputable international peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Adedara was a member of the Organizing Committee for the ?International Webinar One Health Over Borders? organized by the CAPES-PrInt Internationalization Program, Federal University of Santa Maria during 23-25 November 2021. He is an editorial board member of the Journal of Biochemical and Molecular Toxicology (USA). Currently, he is a Visiting Professor at the Department of Food Science and Technology, Federal University of Santa Maria, Santa Maria, Brazil.
